I got up this morning – extra early because the dogs don’t understand the time change – and there was a blanket of fresh snow.
My morning was absolutely ruined. (No, not really of course.)
My morning routine of getting up, taking my 6-month old pup for a walk, and then having my coffee + quiet time needing adjusting. It was icy, snowy, and chilly. And, I was resistant to that change because I wanted things my way on Monday, the way I’ve designed. I desired the consistency today. And, I didn’t get my desires met.
I knew this day was coming, the first snow.
I know that the only consistent part of life is its inconsistency.
And yet? I still was irritated. For a little bit.
And then, I shifted (My little Kenzie helped us learn how, remember?). I started my coffee early, I sat down to quiet time early, I had a kid get up early. And by 9:00am, I had still accomplished relatively the same as most mornings and – I was given extra quiet time, the kids were still at school on time, and a puppy still got a walk. Not in the order that I’ve done for the past few months, but still done.
Quite often, life forces us out of our comfort zones. When we stay in the same circle for too long we can get stagnant. Internal growth and external change are uncomfortable, can make us feel awkward, and we tend to question, fight, and resist all that is surrounding.
It’s in those times that you get to ditch some old ideas, sure up some new ones, and turn the focus on what can be done in that moment.
Here’s to frequently living in a bit of uncomfortable to promote your personal growth.
